My Berfday

So yesterday was my birthday.  It didn't really feel like a birthday cause I had to work, but everyone made an effort to say happy birthday.  I think I have passed that point of being excited about my birthday.  I am not really a gift person so I don't get that excited about receving presents.... with one exception, from Grace, her gifts are always the best.  You know how when you were growing up your friends all got you gifts and your parents gave you that on thing that was really big, and that was the best present of the year.  Well now that I am an adult it's different .  I am the one who gets me the big gift.  So we went out and bought a surround sound system for the living room.  Basically it's loud enough to make you deaf.  but when you hear a helicopter over head, it actually sounds like there is one there.  For all you movie buffs out there I am sure you understand (especially if you are male)

The best part of the day was when my wife and sister got home.  I had crab legs and pizza, my two favorite foods and I got a giant bubble wand and party hats.  We had alot of fun and laughed alot.  I also got to talk to my mom, which was alot of fun too.  Othere than that a pretty normal day.  This post isn't going to be deep, and that's ok.

Is this the grind?

Ok, weekends are going a little to quickly nowadays.  It seems that everytime I get done with a week, the next one is swinging around the corner and then here comes another weekend.  I think I remember back to times when weekends were Long breaks from the long arduous journey of the weekdays.  Perhaps it's because I had less to do then, or perhaps because my hours made more sense during the week.  Now I work from 10-7 with a 45 min commute.  So I leave home at 9 and don't come back til 8.  I get home and hang out with my wife (which is truly the highlight of my day) and she does her best to stay up with me but begins to crash around Midnight.

Well that's about to change, I am getting transfered to a traditional branch, meaning 9-5 hours with a 10 minute commute.  Very exciting.  So yeah for me.  In other news Grace and I are headed to Yosemite for a couple days this weekend.  We are going to a cabin with the small marketing firm she works for which is pretty much the owner (who is quickly becoming a trusted friend) and the rest of the staff which are design and programming geeks which I fit in with rather well ( all hail brandon ferguson ) So I am excited, one for getting out into the outdoors in a beautiful place like yosemite, and two because it will be something different to break up the normal week.  I know that I am not old, but I need to discover the kind of person I want to be as I get older and find where God wants me to be in life.

Sleeping in

I think that one of my favorite parts of the weekend is the ability to sleep when I want to.  I don't think that I am a routine person, sometimes I like to try and fool myself into thinking I am, but really I am not.  I stay up late Friday and Saturday night and sleep in way late as well.  Unfortuanely this weekend my Gracie is not feeling well, so we have spent most of the weekend just resting and taking care of her..... with one exception, we went and saw transformers.  I don't remember a movie making me feel like a kid in a long while and that's exactly what this did.  It was a typical michael bay film, over the top stunts and CG and explosions but I am a guy so I love it.  But I remember being a kid and how when I watched transformers or read books about them, my imagination would carry over and think what if they were real.  Well this movie showed exactly that, it was amazing, totally fun, great script.  When you get michael bay and steven spielberg together, there is no question that it is going to be a great movie.

What a Great 4th

Had a great fourth of july yesterday.  Spent the morning trying to get tickets to Transformers with my wife, unfortuanately it was a bust but I got to hang out with my wife the whole morning which was great!  Then we headed over to some friends house for a BBQ.  Very chill, watched some movies, played the wii, had some hookah and margaritas and the biggest steak I have ever eaten.  We headed down to the crooked bridge in Roseville to watch the Fireworks, (which the actual fireworks suck, I haven't been to some good fireworks in a long time) but the company made all the difference.  Finally we walked back to the house after a stop at the 7-11 for slurpees (otherwise known as squishies since 7-11 has been turned into the kwik e mart from the simpsons) and then we passed out watching talladega nights.  All in all a great 4th.

And..... I'm Back

Ok so I should have listened to my gut on this one, I got to connect with alot of people over there in myspace world and as much as it connected me to people I hadn't spoken to in a long time, at the same time, I was totally missing the very reason I joined an online community.... To hear what is in other people's hearts, and xanga is about shoutouts, pics and everybody trying to sell you something.  I will keep it up for connections, but back to xanga, to do what I like to do... write.

So Last night a couple of friends called me and grace and asked if we would like to go to a rollerderby... yes, you heard me right, a rollerderby.  I didn't have anything else to do so I went and it was a blast!  I had no idea watching a bunch of girls race around a circle and beat the crap out of eachother could be so fun.  The rink had about 300 - 400 people in it and had a certain sense of being a carnival.  Everything was outlandish during the whole thing, everyone had tattoos, and the majority of the crowd was all rockabilly.  Afterwards we ended up at a wine bar drinking a nice syrah and a cheese plate.  Quite a contrast, low brow entertainment followed by high brow dining.  Anyways if you want to see a little about rollerderby here is a link for the our local team.
